Mr Coo: El Laberinto Esférico

Nacho Rodriguez, a 27-year old animator out of Barcelona, the #1 winner of Flash Animation 10: Best Animated, have put up his first Mr Coo game: El Laberinto Esférico.


I always like this type of 'choose your own adventure' game :D And this is just a perfect example of it ! With just a simple click and there, with a little bit of mini game inside, and multiple endings ! And not just that, look at the artwork ! It's awesome :D

You will be taken to a labyrinth where Mr. Coo falls to his death, and so the adventure begin :D Simply click and play ;) Once you've beaten a path, click play again. You must complete all paths to get the real ending ;)

How Well Can You Hear Shapes ?

Now after you know that you are not Tone Deaf, it's time to see whether you can hear the shapes ?!

So, what is this test called AMVI all about ?

What is AMVI? Associative Musical Visual Intelligence (or "amvi" for short) is a type of intelligence that's difficult enough to define, let alone test. Many creative people can associate across sensory domains: they "hear" hints of shapes and can "taste" the essense of colors. At its most extreme this phenomenon is called syntesthesia. However, I believe that creative people subconsciously employ elements of syntesthesia every day when attempting to think of things in new ways. This test attempts to measure one's ability to associate musical phrases with abstract shapes and symbols.

This is entirely a different thing then the Tone Deaf Test I've blogged before. Surely is another piece of good test from Mr. Jake Mandell!

After the overwhelming success of the Tone Deaf Test Mr. Jake Mandell done a research with Dr. Schlaug at the Music and Neuroimaging Laboratory at Beth Israel / Harvard Medical School. And they gave birth to this awesome test.


As usual, you'll be given a piece or two music, and you'll have to answer, what could be the appropriate shapes that represent the music ;)

It's quite challenging and fun ! On some questions I had to hit the Replay button for more than 10 times ! :P

Anyway, here's my score for the first try :P

GROW nano vol. 3

I'm a little surprised when i found out that i haven't been blogging about Eyezmaze's GROW !! How can i not share this one with you guys and gurls ?!

GROW originally was in Japanese, but the game was very popular so that the maker is kind enough to made an English site ^^

GROW is a series of puzzle game type. A unique one i might say :D It's a puzzle which is simple to play and hard to beat ! And have multiple solutios ! That's the kind of puzzle that makes you come back and play again :D

Yesterday, after a long wait, they launch a simple Grow nano vol.3 ^^ Seems the author is sick for this time, so i wish the best for him, hopefully he will get better soon :)

How Well Do You Know Your World

TravelPod.com made a very nice game called Traveler IQ Challenge. It's about How Well Do You Know Your World.

This nice game is very easy to play, but hard to beat ;) You will be given a city name, and you have to click on the whereabout is the city's location.


There are total of 12 Levels to complete. The interface is very simple to understand. Although there are some area you need to pay attention too ;)

• The city name will appear on middle-top, with a background of red bar running across indicating the time left for you to click the city's location on the map. The red bar is synchronized with the Time left on the right (see the yellow arrow)
• There are a minimum score requirement to advanced to the next level. You can see it on the upper right corner, titled Score to advance.
• After you click on somewhere around the world, there'll be a Red Flag which indicate what you clicked. The correct area are shown with the Green Flag. And there's a detailed information of how far you clicked from the correct place, and how much time you need to dig all those Geography lessons back in elementary school :P And after several attempts, i got a You rock! Nice job :P
• But then again, be aware, the time is still ticking ! You see the Next button there ? It has the same Red bar which is running. So, unless you hit the Pause button, after the time runs out, you'll be taken right to the next place. If you wanted to have some time remembering the place, feel free to hit the Pause button ;) Or, if you're a genius, hit the Next button immediately to bring you to another place :D
• If you really really really care, then try to remember some description of the city in the very bottom of the map :P
  

And apparently i'm not even half way to beat the game :P Only 5 out of 12 :P


But this is considered "Pretty good! Someone paid attention during geography class. Your traveler IQ: 87". According to the game ;P

Another plus point for this game is that it allows you to embed it to any page ;) You can find the code here (on the bottom right below the game screen).

Also with the hype of Facebook thing, it's as easy as the game to add it to your profile page :) just click ;)

The Golden Compass - What's Your Dæmon ?

7 December 2007 worldwide, The Golden Compass movie is scheduled to launch, but at Thursday night on 6 Dec 2007, me and my girlfriend watched it already ^^

Hehe.. dunno why but on 6 Dec, we already can saw the movie here in Singapore :)

Anyway, this movie is nice, the whole CG thing was very good, everything looks very natural and real ^^

But be aware that the movie's plot are those of fantasy world ;) LOTR, Narnia kinda thing ;) In my opinion, it's quite nice, although some says that the movie is below average, with hanging ending (ops, spoiler alert!), short plot, bad battlefield scene, etc. But i don't see any of those mentioned :P

Here's some excerpt from the official site:

There is a world where witches rule the northern skies, where ice bears are the bravest of warriors, and where every human is joined with an animal spirit who is as close to them as their own heart.

But this world is dominated by the Magisterium, which seeks to control all of humanity, and whose greatest threat is the last remaining Golden Compass and the one child destined to possess it.

My girlfriend was very amazed with how real the CG is being rendered, and i have to admit that it indeed IS !

All humans in Lyra's world have a Dæmon, which is an animal spirit, much like our other half ^^ and all of these Dæmon looks VERY GOOD in the movies :D you can almost be sure that those were the real animal being used in the movies, and trained to do some lip-sync :P

And for being a geek, i go through the official site directly after watching the movies :P I got lotsa things from it, and most importantly i got the answer for my curious questions

Despite all the bad words of the original source of this movie taken from :

Director Weitz said "in the books the Magisterium is a version of the Catholic Church gone wildly astray from its roots" but that the organization portrayed in his film would not directly match that of Pullman's books. Instead, the Magisterium will represent all dogmatic organizations.

Weitz said that religion would instead appear in euphemistic terms, yet the decision has been attacked by some fans, anti-censorship groups, and the National Secular Society (of which Pullman is an honorary associate), which said "they are taking the heart out of it, losing the point of it, castrating it".

The Atlantic Monthly said also that "With $180 million at stake, the studio opted to kidnap the book’s body and leave behind its soul."

I feel that the movie is 'safe' ^^ well maybe I'm not too expert on this kinda thing,

I just enjoyed the movie :D

The Story of Tatty Teddy Bear

Did you know those ugly looking Teddy Bear ? A grey bear with a blue nose, that has torn all over his body ? Err.. i mean.. i don't really know all kinds of Teddy Bear, but when i saw this kind is becoming popular back then, i was kinda feel strange, what's so cute and nice from this bear ?

Well, anyway, Veron got a very nice story behind this Tatty Teddy Bear :) Now after i read the story, i think this Tatty Teddy Bear is kinda cute though ;P

The little bear was now so cold that his nose started turning blue... so cold that his brown fur started turning grey.

He was cold, unloved and all alone in the world, and felt very, very sad.

Winter finally passed and the weather got warmer. One beautiful spring day, a little girl was playing near the old house, when she spotted the grey bear in the pile of unwanted things. He was like no other bear she had ever seen and she pulled him out from where he was trapped.

She dusted him down and lifted him high in the sky to look at him.

“A grey teddy bear… with a blue nose?” she thought. “How strange!”

The teddy bear wanted to cry. He thought she didn’t like him and would throw him back with the other unwanted things.

“But he’s lovely!” she continued and she fell completely in love with him.

Now, i'm started to think for buying this one for my girlfriend :P Christmas is near ;) This Tatty Teddy Bear is a perfect gift i think :D I can tell her the story behind this poor Teddy Bear :D

A little while ago, i guest-posted on RGS about The Zoomquilt Series.

The Infinite OZ. features the artistic visions of nine acclaimed international artists, a collaboration that brings to life the world of L. Frank Baum's classic adventure, as re-imagined by the SCI FI Channel miniseries event Tin Man.

Inspired by the Zoomquilt 2, The Infinite OZ have a more realistic feeling of being in another world ;) with all the snow, the windmill spinning, etc. Nicely done !

And in case you wanted to get the images for your wallpaper, i'll give you a hint, there are a total of 60 images (from image0.jpg to image59.jpg) being used in The Infinite OZ ;)

Beethoven's Hair

On March 26th, 1827 Ludwig Van Beethoven died in Vienna. The day after, a twelve year old boy cut a lock of his hair as a souvenir.

167 years later the hair was sold at an auction in London. Its new owners were two Americans, Ira Brilliant and Che Guevara.

Between those dates the lock of hair undertook an extraordinary historical odyssey. From hand to hand, from country to country, and from century to century.

This is the story of that journey.

This beautiful and yet creepy (yes, it's a bit creepy) is based on the film Beethoven's Hair itself, which is inspired by the best-selling book by Russel Martin.

Polar Clock 3.0 Released !

If you still remember the beautiful Polar Clock, well just so you know, since then, there have been many improvement going on ;)

And now, we have it, the new Polar Clock 3.0 is Released from Gabriel Bucknall!


The core logic itself was a total remake, porting it to ActionScript 3.0 which is more optimized ;)

So without further ado, here are the New Features :

• Language Selection (28 languages so far)
• Text alignment (outside, centre or inside of arc)
• Font size 12 - 30pt
• Flipping of text when it’s in the lower half of the arc (to stop it being upside down)
• Guidelines behind arcs

• 24/12 hour clock modes
• Arc properties (thickness, padding, radius )
• A spacer Arc for padding between Date and Time ( movable to be between any arc)
• Continuous/Stepped motion (continuous was requested a lot, so that you can see a minute slowly stretching each second to become the next minute etc).
• Ordering of the arcs. You can put the arcs in any order that you want.

• Colours: Luminance, change the lightness of the arcs
• Colours: Saturation, change the strength of the colour
• Colours: Hue offset, change the hue of the arcs to between 0º and 360º.

This is a very great improvement for Polar Clock :D Kudos to Gabriel Bucknall for such a marvelous job ^^

Tactics 100 Live

Create an army of 100 points and send that army into battle against other 100 point armies. Choose the army suited to your fighting style. This is a fair fight and the winner can only be determinde by who has the most skill.

Well, this is a nice Flash Game, which should be enough to spend your weekend at home ;)

In Tactics 100 Live, you'll be given 100 points in which you can spend it to buy units, and then pit them against CPU or another player ;) yes, this thing support multiplayer ;)


There are 4 Units, which you can choose ;) Knight, Ranger, Mage, Cleric, all of it was a common element in a world of games :D

After that, you can choose your strategy, by putting the units, arranging them so they bring the most effective movements, and attacks, plus you can choose some attributes like the floor background, or the color of the suits too ;)


After that, it's time to test out your strategy and tactics, see if you can win ;)

The way you attack affects the outcome, you can attack from high ground, at point blank range, from behind your enemies and many others. Use this to your advantage against your opponent.

Ayiti: The Cost of Life

Welcome to Ayiti: The Cost of Life, a beautiful flash-games brought to you by Global Kids.

The situation in the game, took place in Haiti. Some of Haitians are still having difficulties to achieve education. There are four primary obstacles preventing Haitian students from receiving the education that is their right.

1) The inability to physically reach a classroom.
2) The inability to pay school fees.
3) Inadequate school facilities and resources.
4) Poorly educated parents.

Ayiti: The Cost of Life is designed to be played by young people on their own. However, educators can use the game within their program to address a variety of issues, such as the importance of education, the impact of poverty, or life in Haiti.

We must all recognize the importance of free, basic education if millions of children are to be equipped with the tools and skills they need to rise out of poverty and become self-reliant, productive members of society.

So, hopefully with this beautiful games, you can grasp the importance of education. And to all of us who can get to be educated, we should all give thanks for it ;)

Paper Pilot

Have you made paper airplanes ? I bet you have! Well, at least you did it once when you're a child right ;)

I still remember the times i spent on making and configuring one, and then compete with friends on who's airplane is the farthest to fly ^^

Well, this time Paper Pilot have brought it to the internet ! Very nice flash application ;)

You can choose from 3 different base type :)

After you customize it a little bit (since there's only 3 to customized :P) You can start to practice how far you plane can fly ;)

If you managed to hit above 30 meters, then you're READY to CHALLENGE yer friends ;)

Btw, i never seem to remember my plane can fly over 3 meters when i was a child :P

Look Around The Sky

I never had a chance to visit a planetarium. There's a nice planetarium in Bandung, but i never visited it :P So i never knew what it felt or what it looks like inside a planetarium, all i know is that the planetarium is some kind of dome-shaped building, that have a projector which project skies and stars etc. in the ceiling (and this i know from a friend's story too).

And by some chance, my favourite Flasher Mr. Paul Neave from www.neave.com apparantely have made a simulation of a planetarium :) you can really felt the dome-shaped on the ceiling ! :)

With it's small sized flash, this planetarium is VERY FAST to load ! After you're in the planetarium, you can move around your mouse to see the ceiling ;) to stop/move just click your mouse :) it really felt just like when you were looking up :D You can change date and time, and also the longitude and latitude. Just experiment ;)

As for this moment, the information provided are a very basic one, the name of the constelation, the all positions (those with the tude :P).

At least, now i know where to go when i wanna see a planetarium :) and it's just a click away too :D

Polar Clock

Pixelbreaker made a beautifull clock called Polar Clock. I'm stunned by the beautifull concept of a clock, not the same old boring analog or digital clock ! It was simply just beautiful !

And so, i searched for this Polar Clock terms, and i just knew it today, the definition of Polar Clock :P

a tube, containing a polarizing apparatus, turning on an axis parallel to that of the earth, and indicating the hour of the day on an hour circle, by being turned toward the plane of maximum polarization of the light of the sky, which is always 90° from the sun.

When the first version came out, the author released a screensaver version for it ! But a pity that it was only for Mac :P

But recently, due to the overwhelming request :P the author decided to made a PC version for the screensaver ;) isn't that sweet ^^

Guess what ? I'm using it as a screensaver now :P replacing that old pipes runnin round my screen :P

Color in Motion

Color in Motion is a beautiful flash by Claudia Cortes, that'll give us a basic knowledge of colors, including the personality of the color, the assosiation with real world, the attribute, and lots of other useful informations :)

This work was made as a Thesis for the Master of Fine Arts in Computer Graphics Design at Rochester Institute of Technology, 2003. And i just found this out 4 years later :P But still, it's worth learning ;)

The whole presentation are divided in 3 sections, which you can choose and have fun with :) Those are The Stars, The Movies, and The Lab

Each sections gives us a whole new way of understanding colors ;) by watching the movies, or by reading the personal attribute of the colors, even by taking a quiz, you can measure how much you understand the colors ;)
