Garfield

Friday, July 27, 2007

garfield the cat
Garfield the Cat first appearance is 19 June 1978.

A fat, lazy, cynical, but endearing cat. Born in the kitchen of Mamma Leoni's Italian restaurant, Garfield weighed five pounds, six ounces at birth and right from the start he showed a passion for Italian food. The restaurant owner, forced to choose between Garfield and closing his doors for lack of pasta, sold Garfield to a pet store. Garfield thought he was a goner until Jon Arbuckle walked in the door.

Garfield loves TV and hates Mondays. He's all sass and sarcasm, but he has a soft side too. He loves his teddy bear Pooky, and deep down he loves his owner Jon and his dopey pal Odie.

Garfield is a funny comic strip created by Jim Davis. In the comic strip there were also his owner Jon, and Odie the dog.

My Name in Arabic

Wednesday, July 25, 2007

[Update 2007-10-08] There's a simple Arabic-o-matic to generate your arabic name, if you need one quick and fast ;) (Read Arabic-o-matic blog post here)

My Name in Arabic - zlythern
If you ever curious about how is your name in Arabic looks like, then Reem from My Name in Arabic, is the right person to do the job ;) Ever since May 2007 Reem have made lotsa Arabic name for peoples ;)

Efendi in Arabic
My Name in Arabic
is offering you the service of writing your name in Arabic letters. All you need to do is send Reem an email, write your name, and explain how your name is pronounced. Since the writings will be based on the pronunciation of your name ;)

And Reem, have made me one, a beautiful one ;)

My name is Efendi, and in Arabic is إفندي

Nice eh ;)

And turns out, that Efendi was originated from Turki. Reem pointed me out for this, and here are some quotes from wikipedia.

Effendi or Efendi (from Turkish Efendi) is a Turkish title meaning a lord or master. It is a title of respect or courtesy, equivalent to the English Sir, in Turkey and some other Eastern countries. It follows the personal name, when it is used, and is generally given to members of the learned professions, and to government officials who have no higher rank, such as Bey or Pasha. It may also indicate a definite office, as Hekim efendi, chief physician to the sultan. The possessive form efendim (my master) is used by servants and in formal intercourse.

I never knew that before :P

So, have yourself an Arabic Name ;)

Learn to Make Games in Javascript

Monday, July 23, 2007

Michal Wallace from javascriptgamer.com have written a great tutorial on how to make a game, using only javascript ;)

This is a very nice tutorial especially to understand javascript a little bit more ;) well, the javascript that were being used is prototype.

The tutorials covers all of the basic javascript syntax to the OOP side of it :) With lots of addition e.g: Event handling, Sound, AJAX, etc.

Of course in order to understand this, you must have the prequisite knowledge of HTML and CSS ;) Which I'm sure you already have mastered it ;)

If you followed the tutorial step-by-step you will have a nice looking BrickSlayer in your web-page ;) and who knows if you can be a guru and built this kinda game ;)

YAML an AMAZING (X)HTML/CSS Framework

Friday, July 20, 2007

"Yet Another Multicolumn Layout" a.k.a YAML is an (X)HTML/CSS framework for creating modern and flexible floated layouts. The structure is extremely versatile in its programming and absolutely accessible for end users.

Recently they have released YAML 3.0 worldwide ;) the article it on Deutsch though :P Anyway YAML was started by Dirk Jesse ever since October 2005. There have so much effort poured in.

Layouts, templates, designs were all over the internet
. But I must say, I never met such well documented like YAML ! Bravo to Dirk Jesse ! YAML is a mixture of goodies :
  • Based on web standards
  • Accessible
  • Flexible
  • Easy to use
  • Optimized Stylesheets for Use in Production
  • CSS Comments according to the CSSDOC Standard
  • Better Support of Dreamweaver 7 and 8
  • Numerous Sample Layouts
  • Fully documented

What more can you ask for ? ;)

With more than 100++ pages of documentation, this is the only knowledge-base you'll ever need to build a purely (X)HTML/CSS web pages :) Unlike others that just offer you a dull lookin' template, with little of explanation (which is more like gallery to me) YAML put all the best effort, in guiding us, explaining the CSS itself, and providing a beautiful examples of how it will looked like :)

With a whole chapter of Practice, you can be a master of CSS in just one day :D the information is just so dense !

__________________________________

With YAML you can spend your weekend, at back on Monday becoming a whole new CSS experts ! ;) This is the best (X)HTML/CSS I ever met ! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !

p.s: If you wanted to be more than experts, a GURU then buy out the book I'm sure you won't be disappointed ;) (as for me the documentation is already more than enough though)

Have a nice weekend everybody ^^

Zlythern v.3 - The COLOURs

Thursday, July 19, 2007

I think the important part of designs is COLOUR. The harmony of the colour, the contrast, we all live in a colourful world.

COLOURlovers :: fight for love in the color revolution

COLOURlovers™ is a resource that monitors and influences color trends. COLOURlovers gives the people who use color - whether for ad campaigns, product design, or even in architectural specification - a place to check out a world of color, compare color palettes, submit news and comments, and read color related articles and interviews.

In COLOURlovers™ there are lotsa beautiful colours, all were handpicked, and voted by many people ;) so at least you can be assured, that there are some large group of people that will agree to some colour ;)

So, this night I lurk around, to find a suitable theme for the new zlythern v.3 :) and I have chosen 4 Palettes. I will be experimenting with these 4 Palettes, basically those that I choose, is of the soft colour that match each other, and some colour that seems to be againts each other or in a contrast ;) Anyway, let's see the 4 Palettes that I choose :

Dark Side Of Da Moon

Dead Rubber Duck

you are the one

iam_starscream

Well those are the colours that I'll be playing with ;) If you have any comments about the colours feel free to say it ;) Hm... I have one myself I think. The last one was kinda bring backs memory about Optimus Prime doesn't it ? ;)

Then again, let's hope the outcome will be more than good, right ? ;)

Initial Release of Zlythern v.3

Wednesday, July 18, 2007

After my last attempt to Migrate the Template to Layout, I've been searching through old archive :P

Finally, I'm releasing a crude zlythern v.3 :P I'll add up more make up later on ;)

With this new Layout, zlythern will load faster, have a more wider space, in which I can post a wider picture ;) and a nice outcome when you tried to print my page ;)

And lastly, I think this wider layout will encourage me to do a post with more words, not just a quickie like this one :P

Anyway enjoy the crude zlythern v.3 ^^

Polar Clock 3.0 Released !

Monday, July 16, 2007

If you still remember the beautiful Polar Clock, well just so you know, since then, there have been many improvement going on ;)

And now, we have it, the new Polar Clock 3.0 is Released from Gabriel Bucknall!

The core logic itself was a total remake, porting it to ActionScript 3.0 which is more optimized ;)

So without further ado, here are the New Features :

  • Language Selection (28 languages so far)
  • Text alignment (outside, centre or inside of arc)
  • Font size 12 - 30pt
  • Flipping of text when it’s in the lower half of the arc (to stop it being upside down)
  • Guidelines behind arcs
  • 24/12 hour clock modes
  • Arc properties (thickness, padding, radius )
  • A spacer Arc for padding between Date and Time ( movable to be between any arc)
  • Continuous/Stepped motion (continuous was requested a lot, so that you can see a minute slowly stretching each second to become the next minute etc).
  • Ordering of the arcs. You can put the arcs in any order that you want.
  • Colours: Luminance, change the lightness of the arcs
  • Colours: Saturation, change the strength of the colour
  • Colours: Hue offset, change the hue of the arcs to between 0º and 360º.

This is a very great improvement for Polar Clock :D Kudos to Gabriel Bucknall for such a marvelous job ^^
.

Friday, July 13, 2007

Are you people still using Stripe Generator ? Heh ! Guess what ?! Those guyz behind it, tells us it's time to move on ! It's TARTAN time ^^

Yes, Alex 'Pit' La Rosa and Fabio Fidanza comes up with a new twist for stripes ! They call it Tartan Maker - the new trendsetting application for cool designers What a genius :D

There are lotsa improvement, compared to other generator tool, and i must say it was very very USEFUL ! BRAVO to these guyz !

OK, lemme show you the brilliant thing of every generator tools must have. Can you see it ?
It's the GO FULLSCREEN button !! I repeat, GO FULLSCREEN ! My gawd ! Exactly what a pattern generator tools should have ! It will save our time, to download the pattern, put some css code for it, and preview it fullscreen ourself, just to realize that it looks bad when goes fullscreen. Not anymore ! Thanks to the GO FULLSCREEN button ! Brilliant GUYZ !

__________________________

Another thing is the new SHARE feature ;) If you check back to the Stripe Generator you'll notice it has a SHARE feature too now ;)

The showcase of other people's creation will take you deeper, searching, and play with it ;) and incase you're wondering, yes ! There's a GO FULLSCREEN button too inside ;)

__________________________

All in all, being a perfect generator tool, now they have beaten' all the best idea a generator tool SHOULD have ! Can't get any better than this ;)

Blogger: Redirect Your Feed to Feedburner

Thursday, July 12, 2007

Back in the old days, Blogger offer us feeds in ATOM format, and then they provided the popular RSS one :) Which gives us a way to do some tricks to offer both feeds, and let readers choose which one they wanted to grab.

But nowadays we burn feeds with FeedBurner, in order to grab some statistics of how many readers you have :) But still, some blogs, by default are offering the Blogger feeds default. So, in this case if you wanted to track how many readers you have by using FeedBurner, then maybe there's some number that has not been counted, those who subscribe to your default Blogger feed.

FeedBurner (after being acquired by Google) now surely are gettin' good ^^ They are offering the PRO versions. And now they have another good news for Blogger users, "FeedBurner Integration for Blogspot Blogs"

It simply redirect your feeds to FeedBurner one so that users will always grab the FeedBurner feeds (if you still don't have FeedBurner feeds, head on to the Quick Start for Blogger on how to make one).

By redirecting your feed, you can get a true picture of how many subscribers you have .... By redirecting your feed, you can consolidate any straggler subscribers and greatly improve your ability to effectively measure your audience.

So, how do you do this ? SIMPLE ! You just log into your Blogger account, select Settings | Site Feed, enter your FeedBurner feed address and click "Save Settings."

Voila. You'll be getting an actual number of your feed reader ;)

New CrossLoop 1.1 is AWESOME!

Tuesday, July 10, 2007

[Update 2007-07-11]
You can grab the beta tester for this version, directly from CrossLoop ;)

Download Page:

http://www.crossloop.com/3y6io3 (Expires on Friday July 13, 2007)

User Name: xlbeta
Pwd: filetransfer

________________________

Mr. Mrinal over at CrossLoop has done it again. The Simple Secure Screen Sharing - CrossLoop have been injected with a whole lotsa awesome stuffs !

As you can see, there are 3 NEW FEATURES ! For those of you who have tried CrossLoop before, this will get you to jump off your seat ;)

I'll try to summarize the new features ;) Which is nicely symbolized by 3 new icons on your CrossLoop screen :D

___________________________________________

1. File Transfer

The first new features, that have been on everybody's wishlist ;) is the FILE TRANSFER

Right now, there'll be no hassle to fire up some mail, attach it, and send it, just to provide it to your clients. It's now as easy as click-drag-drop ;) So USEFUL !! You can now send as much files as you wanted ;P

There's a slight action to be considered when you are receiving files though. Currently CrossLoop does not provide the scanning for viruses for the file which is transferred. So just take a preventive action, and do your Anti-Virus software to examine the files which you receive ;)

Though it will a perfect, if we can ask for scanning viruses too eh ? ;)

___________________________________________

2. View Only and Share Control

This is by far the simplest feature which does very good.

It will simply prevent the others from taking the whole keyboard and mouse ;)

There's some note on how to do the View Only mode

If you are on a HOST computer and you want to make sure that the JOIN computer never has control of your computer, hit the "Connect" button before you give the access code to the person on the JOIN computer. At that time you can select the View Only mode (the red "x" will appear on the keyboard/mouse icon) and you can then give the Access Code to the person on the JOIN computer.

___________________________________________

3. Switch Control

The Switch Control, is pretty much a SWITCH :D

So, what does Switch will be applied to ? Let's say you are doing some support on clients, so you CrossLoop-ed to him/her right ? Now, after handling this and then, you can't seem to find the problems, hence you can give him/her a solutions. In this case, your client can try to switch, and reproduce the problem on your computer, while you're watching ;) NEAT eh ? ;)

Well, that's a Switch in my mind :P Though i think there'll be more other usefulness as you use CrossLoop more and more often ;)

___________________________________________

Lastly, this was a huge lift-up to the value of CrossLoop ;)

On another note:
Crossloop version 1.10 will connect to and work with older Crossloop versions but the new features will only be available if version 1.10 is installed on both computers.

So, if you wanted to try your hand on the new CrossLoop, just leave a comment or mail me, i'll give you the private beta release for CrossLoop 1.1 ;)

For those of you who haven't get their hands on CrossLoop, I highly recommend you to try it ;)

And as for the next zlythern's design, I believe it will bring more relief to IE users, since the previous designs were a little bit out for IE users :P so I'll try to work on a designs that will look nice in Firefox and IE ;)

So, expect a whole new experience on zlythern ;) There have lots of changes on zlythern. And the new one will be v.3 ;) Wait for it ! ^^

Grow Your Kid's Interest in Greek Mythology

Friday, July 06, 2007

Greek Mythology have always been my favorite stories, i can never be bored on reading the same Myth over and over again.

The Greek have a wide range of Mythology, and also many have a slightly different version of one and another. Sometimes it was pack in a poem-like stories, or a drama-like. So if we wanted to tell some kids about all of this myth, surely we must spicy up some thing, make it interesting on the ear ;)

And that is what Mythweb did ! A marvelous info packed into a simple and interesting stories, suitable for kids understanding, and entertaining even to us the adults ;)

All of it was accompanied by beautiful illustration ;)

But then again, this site does not meant to cover all the characters of Greek Mythology. As you see, there are many of it. So this is basically the most popular Myth ;) Which, i'm sure will be more than enough to grow the interest of your kids ;)

Have a nice weekend with all the Greek Gods and Heroes ^^

Jared von Hindman's ABCs

Wednesday, July 04, 2007

Jared Von Hindman is an extraordinary American visual artist, a painter, a cartoonist, and a wickedly funny observer of popular culture.
Jared created a series of alphabets from A to Z, in three different theme ^^ All of it was on Head Injury Theater.
Head Injury Theater is a phrase I came up with as a kid that refers to something that happens in cartoons all the time. More often than not, when a character gets hit in the head in a cartoon he starts hallucinating or passes out and has some sort of weird dream/fantasy. Head Injury Theater is another word for "violently induced fever dream"....more or less.
________________________________________

On the Geekity Geekity Geekity series, some alphabets are new to me :| which lead to a conclusion, that i'm not geeky enough :P well, doesn't sure if it was scary or not for bein' geeky ;)

________________________________________

Another attempt from Jared, is involving some religious stuffs, which maybe considered offensive for some of you, but then, try to look at it from the Art Perspective ;) Or with a little bit humor, as Jared says 'Stop giving me that look. You asked for this. Literally.'

________________________________________

The newest of the ABCs series is a Horror theme, well some maybe just weird.

Anyway, let us enjoy the ABCs and perhaps, it'll a good bedtime stories for some naughty kids ;P

And if you enjoy his art, then you might wanna lurk around on more of his artwork ;)
